Due to reduced customer volumes during the pandemic, Amtrak has temporarily closed some entrances and spaces within Chicago Union Station. Access by Amtrak and Metra passengers or others with disabilities is unaffected, with elevators available from both sides of the 200 block of South Canal Street and at 444 West Jackson Boulevard. Ramp access continues to be from the entrance at the corner of Jackson and Clinton Streets. Metropolitan Lounge access for Sleeping Car and Business Class customers is maintained though the Central Corridor “Breezeway.” Seating for general boarding that had been in the Great Hall has been moved into that area. Station access from the Riverwalk will close nightly at 8 p.m. and entrances to the Great Hall from Canal, Adams and Jackson have been closed to the public. The primary entrance to the station at 225 South Canal Street remains open.
